A refreshed photography portfolio site… in just one day
THE BRIEF:
Turnbull Photography & Content is a Queensland-based corporate photography and videography business specialising in capturing compelling images and videos to enhance brands' marketing and communications.
Peter Turnbull recently booked a Designer for a Day session to refresh his portfolio website.
"My old site was just on two years old, and while I still liked the look of it, it didn't really reflect the direction my business had moved," Peter explained.
"I reached out to Kate, and we talked about what I liked and didn't like and how best to achieve what I was after. Her 'Designer for a Day' option was the perfect solution and was just so simple.
"Kate asked me to do some prep work, gave me plenty of time to complete it, and we set a date for the design day."
Working together, we established a Website Wish List that I would tackle on his booked Design Day.
BEFORE
DESIGN DAY:
We kicked off the Design Day with a quick phone call to ensure everything was on track and to discuss a few points raised in Peter's prep pack.
I then got started on checking the items off the Website Wish List.
The Website Wishlist included:
Restructuring and simplifying the main navigation and adding a secondary menu to the footer.
Removing outdated website pages and redirecting existing links to new pages.
Tweaking the website fonts to improve readability
Restyling the header
Reworking the Home Page layout to include a showreel video, preview images for the Portfolio categories, an About preview, a client logo wall and Testimonials.
Adding YouTube videos to showcase client work
Creating a call to action to help direct potential client enquiries
Restyling the Footer
Restyling the About page to fit the new Home Page look
Restyling the Contact page to fit the new look
Restyling the Blog Page and Posts to match the rest of the site.
Updating the Portfolio Page to create a more intuitive experience for visitors to view images.
THE FEEDBACK:
"During the day, Kate sent me a draft to ensure she was heading in the right direction," Peter said
"We had a short chat about a few things, and before I knew it, the site was done.
"I'm extremely happy with both the process and the result. Kate did a fantastic job."
